To assist enterprises from Hong Kong and Chinese mainland in generating tangible value across the Greater Bay Area and global markets through effective IP protection and utilization, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Office hosted the Seminar on Leveraging Intellectual Property to Create Commercial Value in the Greater Bay Area in Guangzhou on July 10. The event gathered over 250 practitioners from creative industries, corporate representatives and IP service professionals from Hong Kong and the mainland, who jointly explored development opportunities for intellectual property in the region.
In her opening remarks, Ms. CHAN Kit Ling, GBA Development Commissioner and Justice of the Peace of Hong Kong, stated that the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area clearly proposes to give full play to Hong Kong’s strengths in IP protection and relevant professional services, support Hong Kong’s development into a regional IP trade hub, and facilitate efficient cross-border circulation of cultural and creative IP assets worldwide.
Invited to the event, Attorney CHENG Chi, Partner of Liu Shen & Associates, delivered a keynote speech entitled Chinese Mainland’s IP Regime: How Hong Kong Enterprises Manage and Protect Intellectual Property Rights in the Mainland Market. Her sharing helped Hong Kong enterprises quickly grasp core essentials of the mainland intellectual property system, and delivered practical legal advice covering compliant operation, rights enforcement and market expansion in the mainland.

Ms. CHAN Kit Ling commented after the seminar that the well-attended event featured vigorous exchanges, which fully reflects the industry’s strong aspiration to capitalize on intellectual property to drive economic benefits and boost domestic and international dual economic circulation.
